Police to guard PM House, Secretariat

RAWALPINDI, Nov 29: The government on Friday decided to assign the security task of the Prime Minister House and the Secretariat to the police and sent the militry guards back into the pre-October military takeover position, an official source said.

The military guards were deployed at the PM House and the Secretariat after October 12 military takeover. The source said the military personnel would now remain at the PM House for ceremonial duty only.

The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting between Brigadier Imran, military secretary to Prime Minister Mir Zararullah Khan Jamali, and a three-member police team led by Inspector General Police, Islamabad, Mohammad Akram.

The source said the security arrangements adopted for the newly elected prime minister were also reviewed at the meeting. It was decided to further strengthen the security measures for the VVIPs by adding 65 police personnel to the existing police force.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Saeed Naveed from the NWFP has been transferred to the PM House to take the command as SP PM House, the source said.

The source said the security arrangements would remain the same as had been for the deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif. He further said the VVIPs route duty arrangements were also reviewed by the top security officials.

House looted: Two robbers stormed a house in F-6/1 on Friday and escaped after snatching gold bangles from women at gunpoint, police said.

The robbers forced their entry into the house of Khan Zada in his absence and held female inmates at gunpoint. They snatched gold bangles from women and escaped after locking them in a room.

Meanwhile, Haq Nawaz Khan’s car number TSP-2864 was stolen from the parking lot of CMH Hospital, while Karamat Hussain’s car no AKJB-4182 was lifted from RA Bazaar area.
