KARACHI, Nov 28: Liaquat Baloch, the central coordination secretary of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, who is also a deputy chief of the Jamaat-i-Islami, claimed here on Thursday Gen Pervez Musharraf has no right to keep the posts of President and Chief of Army Staff at the same time.

Talking to newsmen at an Iftar-dinner hosted for him, he said government formation has never been the MMA leadership’s priority. Instead, we focused on restoration of democracy, the 1973 constitution and the supremacy of parliament.

MMA Sindh chief MNA Maulana Asadullah Bhutto, secretary JI Shahid Hashmi, president of the National Labour Federation Mohammed Islam, Aslam Mujahid and other Jamaat leaders were also present.

Terming the postponement of the Sindh Assembly session “an anti-democratic and autocratic decision,” he said elected representatives of Sindh should have the right to take decisions on their own.

He criticized the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, and claimed it was facing internal rift and their leaders knew they were losing support in urban Sindh.

Answering a question, he said if attempts were made to create rift in the MMA, it would foil all such attempts.

Replying to another question, he said: “The ambiguous attitude of PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto has harmed her party and differences have emerged in their rank.” — PPI
