KARACHI, Nov 27: A sum of Rs60 million has been provided for the Sehwan drainage scheme under Khushhal Pakistan and Annual Development Programme.

This was stated by the DCO, Dadu, Abdul Razaq Abbasi, on Tuesday during a meeting of the task force set up for promotion of tourism in Sindh.

The meeting, which was chaired by the secretary, tourism, Ashique Hussain Memon, also discussed timely completion of Sehwan Town’s beautification and development schemes.

The Secretary pointed out that the Sindh governor was taking a keen interest in beautification of the town.

He said that the department of culture has been made a focal point with the formation of a special committee to ensure timely completion of all development schemes in cooperation with the concerned departments.

He said this would provide relief to the thousands of devotees visiting the Mazar of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar.

The director general, culture, Sindh, Gul Mohammed Umrani, outlined the aims and objectives of the committee, saying it has been assigned to make Sehwan a model town, adding that implementation of development and beautification schemes would provide maximum facilities to the Zaireen.

The meeting was informed that the four-phase development work at the Dargah was initiated in 1999 and the first phase was near completion, adding that the remainder work would be completed by the Sindh government.

The meeting was also informed that the Sindh governor had recently provided Rs30 million for the “Dhammal Court,” and the remainder work would be completed through tendering.

The chief administrator, auqaf, Sindh, Manzoor Hashmi, said that 66 persons have been deployed to maintain cleanliness of roads around the Dargah.

The Secretary later directed the concerned construction company to brief the task force about the development works, adding that members of the task force would soon visit Sehwan to suggest more proposals regarding development work and the beautification plan.

He said that the task force should keep in touch with the district government to help realise the government’s efforts in this regard.—APP
