Pakistan, India clash in Asia Cup

LAHORE, Nov 19: Pakistan meet India in the fifth Asia Baseball Cup to be held in Thailand from Dec 9 to 16.

According to pool position, both Pakistan and India are in  Pool  “B” with host Thailand and Malaysia. Pool “A” comprises China, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Iran and Singapore.   Two top teams of each group will qualify for the semifinals. The draws of the tournament will be taken out in the presence of managers of all the participating teams.

Pakistan Federation of Baseball and Softball has announced a 17-member team for the contest Tuesday. The team was selected by the national selection committee headed by Col Shujaat Ali from the probables who were attending the training camp since Nov 11.

Khawar Shah has been named as manager, while Col. Shujaat is the head coach. Mohsin Khan and Asmatullah Khan  Niazi are assistant coaches. From Pakistan Jameel Kamran is  going as umpire.

Pitchers: Asjad Mahmood, Shabbir Ahmad, Fayyaz Ahmad, Saleem Hyder, Omar Islam.

Catchers: Aashiq Hussain, Ghulam Hussain.

Batters: Basit Murtaza, Saqib Butt, Nasir Butt, Zafar Iqbal, Riaz  Khan,  Mussadaq  Hanif,  Shahzad  Anwar,  Muhammad   Lateef Moughal, Farooq Ahmad, Imtiaz Ahmad.
