LARKANA, Nov 18: An emergency meeting of the district government on Monday decided to take action against environmentally hazardous vehicles.

The meeting was held to discuss the ways and means to improve the city’s deteriorating traffic system and was chaired by the Larkana Nazim Khurshid Junejo.

It was participated by the Nazimeen of the seven talukas of the city, the district coordination officer, Noor Ali Khan, the chairman of the district public safety commission, Dr Niaz Chandio, and the district police officer (DPO), Abdul Sattar Detho

The district government, while expressing its dissatisfaction over the existing traffic system in Larkana City, called for immediate arrangements to improve the same.

The district Nazim urged the owners of smoke-emitting and noise-creating vehicles to replace the silencers of their vehicles or face legal action.

The DPO assured the meeting of implementing the decisions regarding improvement in the traffic system.

The district Nazim said traffic congestion, caused by faulty traffic management system, also needed to be addressed urgently.

Stressing on the need for allotting separate routes for motor-rickshaws, the Nazim called for initiating action against under-aged drivers.

He also called for immediately banning the entry of heavy vehicles in the city, saying that they constituted a major factor in traffic disturbance.

The meeting also criticised inter-city busses and wagons for creating traffic chaos, and urged the concerned officials to take immediate action to ensure that these vehicles do not pick passengers from anywhere in the city except from the main bus terminals.

The anti-encroachment officer of the Larkana Municipal Corporation was asked to remove encroachments from the city and removing traffic congestion, cased by buses and wagons, from Naudero, Dokri and Kambar chowks.

FIR: The Civil Lines police on Monday registered a case against Inspector Hamsuddain Magsi, ASI Nazir Ahmad Mangi and the in charge, investigation wing, Shahdadkot, Mukhtiar Bhutto.

A police head constable, Sabir Magsi, wanted in the Brohi-Magsi tribal clash, had escaped from their custody on Nov 11, the FIR said.

Meanwhile, the Sindh High Court, Larkana circuit bench, on Monday granted bail to Inspector Ghulam Shabir Soomro.

Soomro was earlier sent to jail for not providing security to Justice Syed Zawar Hussain Naqvi.
