MANSEHRA, Nov 16: The Nazimeen of all the districts of the NWFP have entered into an alliance to counter any move by the future government to do away with the local government system.

This was stated by the district Nazim, Mohammad Azam Khan Swati, while speaking at the district council session, convened for the first time after October 10 elections.

Earlier, the session was postponed at least thrice by the Nazim  in October. He urged the members to forget their differences to save the system.

He said the Nazimeen should unite because the chief minister in the future set-up would be powerful enough to do away with the district governments.

He said, so far, a sum of Rs53 million had been allocated for the development projects in the district, out of which Rs13 million were allocated for the completion of ongoing schemes while the remaining amount had been allocated for new schemes.

There was a rumpus during the session, due to walkout and repeated shouting by a group of the members who were agitating against the Nazim’s indifference towards them.

The most vocal among the agitators were, Syed Sharif Shah, Nazim of Itchrian union council, Khalid Javid Khan of union council, Mansehra city No.3, Sardar Abdur Rashid of Balakot union council, and Sardar Said Ghulam of Devli Jabbar union council.
