LAHORE, Nov 13: The government has decided to convene the inaugural session of the National Assembly at 11am on Saturday, Nov 16, almost five weeks after elections.

“Let there be no ambiguity about the government’s intentions or the postponement of the assembly session. It will convened on Saturday,” Federal Information Minister, Nisar Memon, told reporters at an Iftar party held by him here on Wednesday.

Only a few minutes before giving a definite date, the minister said that the NA session could be called “any day, any time”.

The government had earlier announced Nov 8 for convening the National Assembly session which was later postponed allegedly on the request of some politicians.

It is said that the postponement call had first come from the PML-Q leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain saying that he was endorsing the desire of PPP leader, Makhdoom Amin Fahim.

Replying to a question, Memon denied that the US or Saudi Arabia were pressuring Pakistan regarding the composition of the new government. “There has been no such pressure. We would not yield to any pressure in this respect,” he added.

He said the hung parliament was the verdict of the people and the government had not interfered with the electoral process.
