Dental college’s campus

LAHORE, Nov 12: Governor Khalid Maqbool inaugurated on Tuesday the city campus of the de’ Montmorency College of Dentistry at the Government Nawaz Sharif Hospital, Yakki Gate.

The college’s laboratories, girls hostel, lecture rooms for basic sciences and attached Punjab Dental Hospital’s maxillo-facial surgical unit have been shifted on the top three floors of the building of the Yakki Gate hospital.

Two indoor wards, operation theatres, staff nursing station, oral surgery out-patient department, a library and an auditorium has also been established on the new campus.

The college’s clinical classes and hospital’s other eight departments will continue to function on the existing campus.

The shifting of some college departments to Yakki Gate will cause inconvenience among the teaching staff and students. They will attend classes at Yakki Gate, then travel to the dental hospital for the clinical work everyday.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, the governor said the setting up of the de’ Montmorency College of Dentistry’s city campus was a step towards the establishment of the Institute of Dental Sciences in Johar Town.

He said some decisions in this regard would be taken shortly.

The governor said he would ensure the provision of a mini bus for the transportation of staff and students between college’s old and new campuses.

He also announced a grant of Rs20 million to college for the purchase of hospital equipment and accessories and another Rs5 million for the purchase of medicines. More funds for the purpose will be made available to the institution during the next financial year, he said.

The governor said that he has also directed the health department to provide necessary staff to the Dental Hospital in consultation with the hospital management.

He said that 2,500 scholarships had also been created to encourage students studying in different professional institutions in the province. Out of these scholarships, he said, some 50 scholarships would be given to the dental college students.

The governor also visited different sections of the hospital.

Earlier, de’ Montmorency Institute of Dental Sciences Project Director/Dean Dr Rafique Chattha briefed the governor about the new project. College principal Prof Dr Tariq Zaman Ahmad presented the address of welcome.
