KARACHI, Nov 12: The laying of a sewerage line between Jehangir Road and Business Recorder Road will be completed by next Sunday.

The assurance was held out by the concerned chief engineer of the KWSB at a meeting, chaired by the DCO Karachi, Shafiqur Rehman Paracha, at his office on Tuesday.

The DCO had stressed the need for the completion of work on priority basis as people were facing great inconveniences due to the blockade of the roads. Earlier, the DCO visited the intersection and reviewed the situation.

Mr Paracha made it clear to the participants of the meeting that an alternative passage must be made available to the commuters wherever roads had to be blocked for development work. He further directed them not to undertake digging at intersecting roads simultaneously.

The DCO took notice of abandoned carpeting on I. I. Chundrigar Road after repair work.

He directed the officials to intimate people about the reasons for any delay in the completion of development works. For the purpose, he said, boards inscribed with reasons could be put on display at the sites.

He directed the officials to make arrangements for the beautification of the island around M. W. Tower. He suggested that the island be made greener.

OVERCHARGING: People from various areas of the city lodged complaints with the Helpline 135 about overcharging and some also identified the shopkeepers indulging in profiteering.

On receipt of these complaints, price-checking committees were dispatched for taking necessary action, says a statement on Tuesday.

It said the city government had set up the helpline 135 for keeping the prices of eatables under control and to apprise the people of the government rates of such items.

The Sindh chief secretary also telephoned the Helpline-135 and inquired about the number of complaints and the action initiated on them.

The Karachi DCO has directed that the a report, based on complaints received on Helpline 135 and action initiated, be sent to the Sindh chief secretary and the Karachi Nazim on a daily basis.—APP
