KARACHI, Nov 16: The Sindh High Court dismissed on Friday the petition of an activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement who had challenged his detention, allegedly without being produced in court.

The division bench comprised the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court, Justice Saiyed Saeed Ashhad, and Justice Mushir Alam.

Explaining reasons for non-production in the court, the Advocate-General Sindh, Raja Qureshi, submitted that the petitioner, Nadeem alias Marbelwala, was “a very dangerous and hardcore terrorist, he could not be produced in court of law. He is facing trial in four cases within the jail premises.”

Nadeem has been in detention for the past two years without being produced in court. It was also his prayer that the government be directed to inform him of the total number of cases against him.

The AG informed the court hat the petitioner was involved in 28 cases of arson, murder, attempt to murder and encounter with police. His trial in four cases was being conducted inside the prison.

After hearing the statement of the AG, the court dismissed the petition.

ATA APPEALS: The anti-terrorism appellate bench of the Sindh High Court, consisting of Justice Ghulam Nabi Soomro and Justice Ataur Rahman, also dismissed an appeal filed by Mohammed Kashif alias Shikra and Hamid Husain alias Piya, activists of the MQM.

They had challenged their conviction by the anti-terrorism court-II on charges of kidnapping and killing a police official in Karachi.
