Razia helps Punjab Whites lift trophy

LAHORE, Nov 15: Two goals by international inside-left Razia Malik helped Punjab Whites to annex the first All Pakistan Fatima Jinnah women’s hockey tournament, defeating Sindh Colours 6-1 in the final at the National Hockey Stadium Thursday.

Outside-right Asifa Iqbal, inside-right Azra Nasir, outside-left Beenish Hayat and Salma Jabeen added one goal each.

The solitary goal from the Sindh Colours side came from right-half Sanam Yousaf.

Razia, declared the best scorer of the tournament, drew first blood in the 10th minute when she netted a field goal on solo effort. Asifa banged home a field goal in the 16th minute to double the lead which remained till the half time.

After resumption, Punjab Whites increased the lead 3-0 with Razia scoring her second goal in the 44th minute. Azra Nasir put Punjab Whites further ahead (4-0) scoring a field goal in the 49th minute.

Sindh Colours mustered their solitary goal in the 60th minute when Sanam Yousaf found the board after a melee.

Punjab Whites scored two goals in five minutes to complete the tally. Beenish Hayat scored in the 64th minute before Salma Jabeen sounded the board in the 69th minute.

Earlier, a goal by inside-left Sabeeha helped Punjab Colours to earn the third position beating Sindh Whites 2- 1.

Punjab Colours took the lead when Rabia Qaiser slammed a goal in the 21st minute. The slim lead remained intact till the breather.

After half time, Sindh scored the equaliser through Sabra who converted a penalty-corner in the 56th minute. Sabeeha scored the decider in the 77th minute.
