PESHAWAR, Nov 7: The Mutahidda Majlis-i-Amal has criticised postponement of the National Assembly session and called upon the rulers to desist from repeating the 1971 blunder, which led to the dismemberment of the country.

Speaking to the MMA’s provincial parliamentary board meeting here at the Al-Markaz Al-Islami on Thursday, MMA provincial chief Qazi Abdul Latif demanded of the rulers to convene the NA session immediately and end the prevailing uncertainty.

He regretted that the rulers were going to repeat, once again, the same blunder which they had committed in 1971 and refused to transfer the power to the elected political forces. By paving way for their sycophants, the rulers were doing a great disservice to the country, he added.

He said the government itself had become a party to the crisis and trying to exclude the MMA from the power game by manoeuvring a so-called consensus between the PML (Q) and the PPP.

He said the postponement of the National Assembly session scheduled for Nov 8 (Friday), had exposed the real face of the rulers.

The present rulers, he said, had become subservient to the US and its allies and they were making all-out efforts to keep the MMA out of the government.

The meeting was attended by Maulana Amanullah Haqani, Maulana Gul Naseeb, Mufti Kifayatullah (JUI-F), Prof Mohammad Ibrahim of Jamaat-i-Islami, Maulana Yusuf Shah of JUI (S), Abdus Salam Salfi of Jamiat Ahl-Hadith, Ovais Qadri of JUP and Allama Ramzan Tauqir of the Pakistan Islami Tehreek.

Qazi Latif said the MMA had won maximum number of seats and emerged as the single largest party in the province, but the government was not convening the session of provincial assembly.

If there was a crisis, it was in Islamabad and not at the provincial level, he said.

He demanded to the government to convene the Frontier assembly forthwith and allow the MMA to form its government.

The MMA would foil all conspiracies being hatched against their mandate, he added.

The meeting was convened to decide about the distribution of Senate tickets and provincial ministries amongst the components of the MMA, but the meeting delayed it for some time.
