KARACHI, Oct 22: The selection committee for admission to MBBS programme on Tuesday prepared the final list of students selected for admission to first-year classes (session 2002-2003) in Dow and Sindh medical colleges.
A senior official in the admission committee said that students could see the detail list pertaining to DMC and SMC at the main gate of the Dow Medical College on Wednesday morning. The list would also be available at DMC website (www.dmc.com.pk).
The list for the DMC, where 222 students would be admitted against district merit seats, begins at the score of 90.80 secured by Sana Zia, seat No 670, while the cut-off aggregate is 81.57 per cent.
The first ten in the list included nine girls and one boy — all had passed their intermediate examinations with A-1 grade.
The SMC list for 151 students starts at the score of 81.56 obtained by Affan Tayyab, seat No 1,006, while admissions would close at the college at an aggregate marks of 79.01. The top ten students included eight girls and two boys, out of whom two are A-1 graders, while eight are A-graders.
In all, 7,090 candidates had appeared in the test conducted by the Bahria University on Sept 15 for admission to five medical colleges in the province, out of whom 2,869 students had applied for admission to DMC and the SMC.
The merit list is based on candidates’ performance in matriculation (10 per cent), intermediate (40 per cent) and entrance test (50 per cent).
The maximum marks — 386 out of the 400 (48.250) — was scored by Sara Afzal, followed by Shireen Safdar and Sana Zia, with 48 and 47.5 per cent marks, respectively. Sara, Shireen and Sana had obtained 898, 922 and 953 marks in intermediate exams.
As many as 197 A-1 graders, 165 A-graders and two B-graders of intermediate examinations and nine A-level graduates have been selected for admission at the two colleges. In all, 301 girl and 72 boy students have been selected for admission.
The chairman of the Karachi medical colleges admission committee, Prof Ilahi Bakhsh Soomro, said that offer letters to the selected students would be sent through courier service at the addresses given by the applicants. Students are required to finalize their admissions as soon as they got the offer letters. Teaching will start on Nov 1.
