KARACHI, Oct 22: The recounting of votes in NA-255, PS- 103 and PS-118 remained inconclusive on Tuesday, which was the second day, and will be taken up on Wednesday.
In NA-255, Mehmoud Qureshi of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement has been declared winner. Earlier, Aslam Mujahid of the MMA had been declared elected, but in an un-official results announced on TV and radio by the EC, Mehmoud Qureshi was shown as winner.
This “change “ in the result was challenged by the MMA, which demanded recounting of the votes.
There were 194 polling stations and during the last two days votes cast in only four stations had been recounted and if the pace remained the same, the process could at least take over three months.
However, in the provincial constituencies PS-103 and PS-118, where recounting was also ordered, during the last two days 45 and 54 out of 90 and 92 polling stations, respectively, had been covered.
In PS-103, from where Mohammad Idrees of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was declared winner initially, the recounting has been ordered on the demand of runner-up candidate Mohammad Muslim of the MMA.
Likewise, in PS-118, from where Syed Faisal Sabzwari of the Muttahida had been shown elected in the un-official results, the recounting is being carried out on the demand of Syed Qutub Ahmed of the MMA.
