Rs158 million for uplift projects

BAHAWALPUR, Nov 13: The Bahawalpur district council on Tuesday approved Rs158 million development projects to be carried out in the current financial year.

The session was presided over by Naib Nazim Syed Owais Gardezi while Nazim Tariq Cheema presented proposals.

A sum of Rs142 million will spent on different projects under the Khushhal Pakistan programme. Of this allocation 60 per cent and 40 per cent amount will be spent on the rural and urban uplift schemes, respectively.

An amount of Rs26 million will be utilized under ADP of which Rs4 million have been earmarked for laying sewerage lines in Bahawalpur and Ahmedpur East cities. Bahawalpur will get Rs2.5 million while Ahmedpur East Rs1.5 million.

Tehsil councils of Hasilpur, Yazman and Khairpur Tamewali will be given Rs7.5 million each for development works. Besides, 107 union councils of the district will be granted Rs700,000 each.

The Nazim asked all the members to give the list of uplift projects so that funds could be released. He also directed to scrutinize the sugar cess deposited by the Ashraf Sugar Mills, Bahawalpur.

Meanwhile, the Bahawalpur tehsil council met here on Tuesday. All the members were directed to give proposals for the delimitation of village and mohallah councils.
