KARACHI: Seven cars, 10 bikes hijacked

KARACHI, Oct 13: Seventeen vehicles — seven cars and 10 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Sunday, police said.

Three cars were hijacked. Four others were stolen.

Seven motorcycles were hijacked. Three others were stolen. Police also claimed on Sunday to have recovered three cars and four motorcycles in the city.

HEROIN: The Anti-narcotics Force has recovered narcotics in a large quantity in a raid in the city and arrested a government official along with two others, adds agencies.

A special team of the ANF seized three kgs of high quality heroin from Abdul Hakeem. Following the raid the ANF also arrested assistant chemist Abdul Hakeem Brohi, of Government Chemical Laboratory, on the spot, when he was delivering 1.5kgs of heroin to Altaf Husain.

His accomplice and lab assistant, Khadim Husain, escaped.

Abdul Hakeem told the ANF that he had more than 1/2 kilo heroin also in his office. This heroin was also recovered in the presence of the accused.

Remand of the accused has been obtained from a court. Raids for the arrest of the absconder are being made.

CRIMINALS: Lately there has been an alarming increase in robberies and thefts in Gulistan-i-Jauhar as 3-4 incidents are being reported in each block every day.

Thefts by male and female servants and robberies have become quite frequent. But police are allegedly declining to register FIR of most cases.

Explaining the modus operandi of thieves and bandits, an area resident said thefts and robberies were being committed with the help of domestic servants.
