KARACHI, Oct 13: Two men and a woman fell victim to reckless driving in the city on Sunday.

A young man died in a road accident near the Edhi Home in Sohrab Goth. Police said that an unidentified young man was hit by Suzuki pick-up (KF-0147). He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Police claimed to have arrested the driver, Mohammed Aslam, and impounded the vehicle.

A middle-aged woman was knocked down by a speeding passenger coach in Nazimabad.

Police said that the woman, identified as Najmun Nisa, aged 55, was crossing the main road near the Board office bridge when an unidentified speeding coach knocked her down. The coach drove off after the accident.

The woman was rushed to nearby Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

A young man fell victim to reckless driving on Sharea Faisal on late Saturday night. Police said that Mehar Saleem, aged 35, was run over by a Suzuki Hi-roof while walking across the main road near Karsaz.

He was rushed to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. Police claimed to have arrested the driver, identified as Mohammed Adil, and impounded the vehicle.

ARRESTED: The Artillery Maidan police arrested two mobile phone snatchers near Zainab Market on Sunday.

DSP Preedy Aijaz Hashmi said that Ali Ahmed, who lived in an apartment building, was buying some articles at a shop near his residence when two men came there and snatched his mobile phone and escaped on their motorcycle.

The victim informed a passing police mobile of Artillery Maidan police station. Policemen arrested the two suspects after a chase.

Police recovered a mobile phone set and a motorcycle from their possession.

“We are checking the motorcycle record to ascertain if it is stolen or not,” the DSP said.

He said police had been receiving a number of complaints about snatching of mobile phones in the area.
