SARGODHA, Oct 12: Saddar police have booked former provincial minister Farrukh Javed Ghumman, his two sons, MPA-elect from PP-35 Faisal Farooq Cheema and 20 others for abducting and thrashing a former MNA.
Tanazalur Rahman alleged that two dozen people, armed with four Kalashnikovs and other weapons, abducted former MNA Chaudhry Javed Iqbal Cheema from a bridge near Chak No 109 NB at about 2.45pm at the behest of MNA-elect Chaudhry Anwar Ali Cheema.
The former MNA, who was on way to a polling station in Chak No 110 NB, was allegedly thrashed and thrown into a drain in a critical condition.
Chaudhry Farrukh Javed Ghumman categorically refuted the allegations levelled in the FIR.
He said that neither he nor his sons or any other person related to them attacked Mr Cheema.
He said that voters ensured victory of Chaudhry Anwar Ali Cheema against MMA nominee Shamas Naveed Cheema and to minimize indignity of his crushing defeat, his elder brother Chaudhry Javed Iqbal Cheema staged a drama.
He claimed that at the time of the alleged incident he was sitting in his house at Chak No 104 NB.
Condemning the incident, Jamaat-i-Islami’s Punjab Amir Hafiz Muhammad Idrees said that the government-sponsored political party harassed the voters of NA-67 (Sargodha) by displaying arms.
Meanwhile, Constable Zafar Iqbal of Phularwan police station has lodged a report against over two dozen unidentified people, reported to be supporters of Faisal Gujjar and MPA-elect Fakhar Iqbal, who exchanged indiscriminate fire on polling day. As a result, two men and a woman were injured. Three cars (Nos RIU 8919, LRA 8786, LXR 6815) were also damaged.
