JAMMU, Nov 12: At least 22 people were killed in widespread violence in occupied Kashmir, senior army and police officials said on Monday.
Indian soldiers gunned down two freedom fighters late Sunday in the Haigam village near Sopore, said a police spokesman.
He added that another militant was killed at the Lolab village in the Kupwara district during an encounter with occupation troops. Two more Kashmiri fighters were shot dead in the same district overnight.
Police said that a soldier had also been killed during an encounter with the Mujahideen near the Handwara township on Monday. “The fighting is still going on in the area,” the spokesman said.
Indian soldiers on Monday also shot three Mujahideen at the Dhara Sangla village in the Poonch district. Police said suspected freedom fighters had barged into a house in the village and shot dead a man and his teenaged son. They also gunned down three Muslim civilians in Kashmir. Meanwhile, Indian forces on Monday shot dead eight Mujahideen in Kashmir, a senior army official said.—AFP
