KARACHI, Oct 9: Bandits shot a man to death in Korangi on Wednesday.

Police said that two unidentified armed men barged into the house of Saqib Rafiq, aged 35, in sector 50-D in Korangi early Wednesday morning. When Saqib tried to put up resistance to the bandits, they opened fire on him and escaped.

Saqib was rushed to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

A bandit was killed by the firing of his accomplice while trying to flee after committing a robbery in Baghdadi.

Police said that three unidentified armed men barged into the house of Saleem in Nayabad Haji Yaqoob Building in Baghdadi. A woman from the neighbourhood saw them entering the house and raised alarm. People from the neighbourhood gathered outside the building.

Police said that the bandits became panicky on seeing a crowd of people. In order to escape they made Saleem’s son Arsalan hostage and came down the stairs firing in the air. However, a bullet hit one of their accomplices, who was holding the child in his arms, in the head. The bandit fell to the ground. The child escaped unhurt.

The two other bandits fled leaving behind their dead accomplice.

The dead bandit was later identified as Naveed, alias Dilbar, aged 23. He was wanted in several other criminal cases, police said.

Shot dead: A rickshaw driver was shot dead near Capri Cinema on M.A. Jinnah Road by two men riding on a motorcycle, police said. The man, in his early 30s, was identified as Abdur Razzak. The body was shifted to a hospital for autopsy.

CARJACKING: Twenty vehicles — nine cars and 11 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Wednesday, police said.

Six cars were hijacked. Three others were stolen. Seven motorcycles were hijacked. Four others were stolen.
