DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Nov 12: A procession was taken out by the Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan here on Monday to protest against the detention of its workers and police raid on Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman’s Madressah, Jamiat-ul-Maarif-al-Sharia.

The SSP workers had been arrested by local police during and after rallies held on Friday last. The raid on the Madressah was conducted the same day.

The procession started from Commissionary Bazaar and ended at Chowgalia. It was led by SSP senior vice-president Khalifa Abdul Qayyum.

The protesters, holding party flags, were chanting anti-US and anti-government slogans.

Those who addressed the protesters later, condemned attacks on Afghanistan and demanded an early withdrawal of foreign forces from there. They demanded the release of all those who had been arrested in connection with the Afghan issue.

The speakers also urged the government to review its Afghan policy.

They demanded the trial of those police officers who had opened fire on protesters during rallies on Nov 9.

JUI(F) had taken out a procession on Sunday last, which started from Tijarat Ganj and ended at Dr Qadeer Chowk. It was led by Khawaja Mohammad Zahid, finance secretary, JUI(F); and Maulana Alla-ud-Din, Defence of Pakistan-Afghanistan council.
