KARACHI: EU observers meet governor

KARACHI, Oct 5: Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro has said all measures have been taken to ensure that elections are held in a peaceful, fair and impartial manner.

He was talking to a European Union observers group which met him here in the Governor’s House on Saturday. The EU observers were led by John Chush Nahan.

He invited the European Union observers group to visit various places in the province, especially the far-flung areas, and said every possible assistance would be extended to them for this purpose.

The governor said together with other arrangements a coordinated planning had been undertaken for maintenance of law and order during the polls.

The observers group expressed satisfaction with the steps that had been taken.

The governor has issued strict instructions to pay outstanding dues to the employees and pensioners of local government.

Following the instructions the provincial finance department has released Rs145 million for employees salaries and Rs240m for pensions. The governor asked the finance department to ensure timely payment of salaries. — APP/PPI
