Mian Azhar confident of victory

LAHORE, Oct 2: PML-QA President Mian Azhar says the destiny of the people can be changed only if altruistic leadership is at the helm.

Speaking at an election-related meeting in his constituency, he expressed the confidence that his party would emerge victorious and the opponents face a humiliating defeat on the day of elections.

Without naming anyone but leaving least doubt that he was referring to former prime ministers Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto whose partiesare contesting elections under ‘Tiger’ and ‘Arrow’ as symbols, Mian Azhar said a tiger never left the field nor the arrow could be a healer.

Had the two parties been sincere with the masses, they would have undertaken projects for the progress and prosperity of the country in their respective tenures.

He said those who were levelling baseless allegations of poll-rigging had been rejected by the masses.

He said it was strange that those who had been appealing to India to pressure Pakistan for the restoration of democracy were today seeking votes from people. Such leaders, he said, would have to apologize to the electorate.

The PML-QA president said his party would give economic development top priority. Initially, he said, 50,000 new jobs would be created to overcome unemployment.

PPP: PPP leader Munir Ahmed Khan, who is a candidate on PP-145 (Lahore), said on Wednesday that the possible election results given by a foreign broadcast would be disturbing for the regime.

In a press statement, he said the PPP was growing in popularity and its supporters were working for the victory of the party and its chairperson Benazir Bhutto.

The election results, he said, would be as surprising for the regime as they were in 1970. The PPP leader believed that the election results would not be like the referendum results as the party workers on the polling stations would be fully watchful. The presence of the international observers, he said, would also serve as a deterrent against rigging.
