DHAKA, Sept 29: Police on Sunday arrested six people on suspicion of involvement in two blasts in public places last night which injured more than 100 people in Sathkhira, some 175 kms from here.

The first blast occurred in a local cinema, Roxy Cinema Hall, when more than a 100 people were watching the evening show of a Bangla movie.

The second explosion occurred, within five minutes of the first blast, at the local stadium, some 350 metres from the cinema, where several thousand people were enjoying a circus show.

Some of the serious victims were later shifted to the Combined Military Hospital in Jessore and Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

No one has so far claimed responsibility of the explosions.

The Minister for Home Affairs, Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, on Sunday obliquely blamed the opposition for the incident.

“Certain political quarters deliberately committed the grisly crime to tarnish the image of our government,” the minister told local journalists.
