Speaking at the handing over of road construction machinery to all 18 towns of Karachi under the second phase of the Khushal Pakistan Programme here on Friday, he said despite numerous hurdles, the devolution system had been working in the right direction and more facilities were being provided to towns and hoped that gradually things would improve further.
The governor called for making efforts to ensure cleanliness and for better maintenance of localities.
He highlighted the ongoing uplift projects in Karachi, including the flyovers, K-III Project and infrastructure development programmes and said these would ultimately give the city a new look.
He urged the people to cooperate with government in its efforts to beautify the city.
While the towns are busy cleaning and lifting garbage, residents must refrain from throwing garbage and solid waste carelessly.
He further said that the disposal of polythene bags in sewerage system results in blockage of lines, resulting in sewerage overflow which damages the roads and causes inconvenience to all.
During the Phase-II of the handing over of equipment, machinery worth Rs 40 million was handed over to towns which included nine skid steer loaders, tractor loaders and Hino dumpers while under the third phase of the KPP, more machinery, including Hino refuse vans would be given to all towns.
The governor said that the government was committed to safeguard the interests of the people and towns were being strengthened keeping this in mind.
He underlined the need for keeping the city clean and beautiful, and for a peaceful environment so that more and more investors could be attracted.
Naib Nazim Karachi Tariq Hasan lauded the KPP and thanked the governor for giving machinery to towns.
He said that about 60 to 70 per cent of all vehicles and other machinery had been lying idle at workshops when the City Government was formed one year ago.
With the distribution of machinery to towns, they were being made powerful enough to handle their crisis for themselves rather than depending upon the city in their routine matters, he said.
He praised the Nazim Karachi, Naimatullah Khan, for working to make Karachi the City of lights again and said one can witness this as an-ongoing development projects are visible all over the city.
Speaking on the occasion, in-charge of KPP, DCO Shafiqur Rehman Paracha, said all machinery was being distributed equally among all towns of Karachi irrespective of their urban and rural status.
He called upon the towns to utilize the machinery up to their maximum capacity for the benefit of masses, besides ensuring that they were maintained properly, so that the machines stay in working condition for a long time.
