Karachi Port operations

KARACHI, Sept 26: Berthing activity at the wharves was maintained on the higher side on the Karachi port on Thursday as agencies tried to clear the inward rush of foreign flag vessels well in time.

According to KPT sources all the new arrivals as well as those awaiting berths off-port were toed to the vacant berths and they are in the process of loading and unloading cargoes.

The ships, which got berthed are, among others included Al-Ihssa, Oriental Bright, Kota Salam, Sima Kiji to unload and load containers, Beluga Superstia, BBC Denmark and Borca, to unload and load general cargo and Botany Triton to offload chemicals.

Sailing was also active as six ships, Mar Challenger, APL Cairo, Kota Teratu, Banglar Mamata, Plamer and Al-Maqwa departed, while Beluga Superstia, Kota Salam, GST Sunrise, Botany Triton, Sima Kiji and D.S. Manate are due to sail out on Friday.

Berth occupancy was maintained on the higher side for the second day in a row at 67 and 68 per cent both at the oil piers and the dry wharves respectively.

Cargo handling activity at the wharves was active where a total tonnage of 51,866 tons comprising 11,619 tons of export cargo including 3,578 tons of wheat and 95,925 tons of import tonnage, which also included 50,266 tons of oils was handled.

The following ships are due on Friday: Global Progress, Heiun, Emirate-11 and Jamila, all to unload and load containers.
