HYDERABAD, Sept 24: The people should vote for the Muttahida- backed candidates if they want complete provincial autonomy and resolution of other vital issues affecting Sindh, the deputy convenor of the coordination committee of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Dr Farooq Sattar, said on Tuesday.

He was speaking to participants of various corner meetings held in different parts of Latifabad and Hyderabad.

Dr Farooq Sattar held meetings with the office bearers of the traders’ organisations.

He told the traders that only Muttahida government in Sindh was capable of resolving all their problems.

Urging the public to cast their votes in Muttahida’s favour, he said that the Muttahida chief, Altaf Hussain, had always raised voice for the masses.

Others who spoke on the occasion included the convenor of the Muttahida’s coordination committee, Aftab Ahmed Sheikh, the Muttahida’s zonal incharge and the candidate for a provincial assembly seat, Arshad Shah, and other MQM candidates, Aslam Pervez, Farooq Qureshi, Naeem Ishtiaque.

Seminar: A seminar on “preventive measures against tetanus” was held at the Sir Cowsjee Institute of Psychiatry here the other day.

Speaking on the occasion, District Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman, who inaugurated the seminar, said Pakistan was at number three in the world in mortality ratio of mother and child due to tetanus.

He said 22,000 children died of tetanus in the country every year before they attained the age of one year.

He pointed out anti-tetanus campaign could not succeed unless correct information about this disease was made available to people.

The district Nazim urged woman health workers to create awareness among people regarding tetanus.

He announced cash award would be given to those woman health workers who performed their duties diligently to create awareness among people.

He directed the EDO, health, to chalk out an elaborate programme and prepare a form for woman health workers and staff to ensure the success of the phase-II of the programme.

He said Nazims of union councils would supervise the six-day anti-tetanus campaign, which would conclude on Sept 28.

Speaking on the occasion, the EDO, health, Dr Qadir Bux Memon, said efforts would be made to eradicate the disease in the district by 2005.
