KARACHI, Sept 24: Experts have recommended a modified arthritis management plan for patients suffering from osteoarthritis and exposed to associated pain.
It was observed that these patients seeking sustained relief from pain are generally found to be dissatisfied with the effectiveness of their pain medications, as they continue to experience pain that affects their quality of life.
The situation tends to be all the more acute for those inflicted with peptic ulcer. Users of non-steroidal anti- inflammatory drugs were also increasingly noticed experiencing gastrointestinal complications. This is registered as the most common side-effect of traditional, non-selective NSAIDS. The complications may also range in severity from occasional abdominal pain, heartburn or dyspepsia to serious and potentially fatal ulcer that may occur without warning.
Complications related to ulcer are manifested through breaks in the lining of the stomach or first part of the small intestine causing pain and leading to perforations, obstructions and bleeding.
Perforation, another serious medical condition, is noticed when ulcers are left untreated.—APP
