KARACHI, Nov 11: An activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was shot dead in Joharabad on Sunday evening.
The police said that Tayyab Ali Khan, aged 35, was shot from a close range by unidentified assailants at Mehboob Square near the Water Pump traffic intersection. He died on the spot.
Quoting witnesses, the police said that Tayyab was being followed by unknown persons, and as he entered the compound of Mehboob Square, the armed men shot him from a close range and escaped.
The police said that it was not clear whether the assailants were riding on a motorcycle or were on foot.
The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem. Sources at the hospital said that the young man had received a single bullet in the head.
After the killing tension gripped the area and enraged youths forced shopkeepers to pull down their shutters.
The SSP Central, Shaukat Husain, told Dawn that the victim was identified as Tayyab Ali Khan from the identity card recovered from his pocket. However, later he was identified as a Muttahida activist, Tayyab Ali alias Naeem Chashmoo, the SSP added.
Intermittent firing was reported from different parts of district Central in the night.
Unidentified persons killed a young man in Quaidabad.
The police said that Urwaish, aged 35, was found dead with his throat slit and stab injuries in the abdomen at a graveyard in Quaidabad. The body was sent to JPMC for post-mortem.
