PESHAWAR, Sept 22: The chief of his own faction of the Pakistan People’s Party, Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, has said his party will work for betterment of the Pakhtoons and announced launching of a movement to achieve the rights of the province.

Speaking at meetings at Shabqadar and Matta Mughalkhel on Sunday, he said that only the provincial autonomy could guarantee the rights of the Pakhtoons.

Mr Sherpao said: “We do not believe in hollow slogans. We will opt for pragmatic measures for the rights of Pakhtroons.”

He lambasted certain elements for having betrayed the trust of the Pakhthoon people for their personal perks and privileges. He said his party would do more for the rights of the poor and would expose the “real faces” of so-called champions of the Pakhtoons.

The PPP chief called upon the Pakhthoon people to solve their petty differences and bring unity in their ranks for attainment of their rights.

He expressed his determination to change the trend of negative politics in the country and assured the Pakhtoons of effective measures for changing their destiny.

Mr Sherpao announced that his party would not comprise the rights of the Pakhtoon people, and would render sacrifices for their cause.

He called upon the people to disown vested interests in the upcoming polls and vote for honest candidates, who could represent their aspirations.

Mr Sherpao supported federal parliamentary democracy, saying that it was the basis of political system and strong federating units were instrumental for the stability of federation.

He said provincial autonomy, rights of the Pakhtoons and check on price-hike and unemployment topped his party’s agenda.
