Islamabad’s Hamza emerges sole leader

ISLAMABAD, Sept 21: Hamza Amin maintained his lead in the amateur net competition Saturday finishing the day with a net score of 66 in the Chief of the Army Staff Open Championship at the Rawalpindi Golf Course.

The Islamabad Club golfer having a handicap of 12 had shared the overnight lead with Talal Safdar at net 71. He ended the second round with an aggregate score of 137 over two days.

There was a three-way tie for second place with Danyal Jehangir of Lahore Gymkhana, Maj Gen Tariq Masood of Islamabad and Rawalpindi’s Lt. Col Muhammad Abrar all level at net 146.

Adil Jehangir and Gulrez Shahid shared the third spot with scores of 147 and a stroke behind were three others - Vaqas Ahmed, Omer and Muhammad Babar Khokhar - all tied at 148 net.

Vaqas of the host club was however ahead in the gross event, following up his Friday’s round of 75 with a score of 73 for an aggregate of 148.

Four strokes adrift was Islamabad’s Tariq Mahmood at 152 who had an identical second round of 76 while Adil Jehangir was a close third with gross 153.

Meanwhile in the professional category, overnight leader Tahir Naseem of Lahore Gymkhana slipped to third place, as PTV’s Ghaffar Ahmed gained the lead with a score of par 72 for an aggregate of 143 in two days.

Ghaffar birdied the fifth, 10th, 14th and 17th holes while double bogeying the seventh. He had another two bogeys on the fourth and fifth holes as he collected 37 going out and 35 coming in.

Islamabad’s Shabbir Iqbal and Waheed Baloch of Habib Bank were both in second place at 144 followed by Muhammad Munir, Muhammad Sultan and Tahir Naseem, all three sharing third spot.

Rubab Haider was in the lead in the ladies net tournament that began Saturday scoring net 71 with Uzma Nazir and Tahira Nazir tied for second spot at 74. Asma Afzal Shami (75) was third.

In the gross event, Tahira led the field with a score of 80 while Jamila Jabbar was three strokes behind at 83 followed by Mehvish Javed at 89.
