SIALKOT, Sept 19: The Election Commission of Pakistan has issued show cause notice to Narowal District Nazim Col Javed Safdar Kahiloon (retired) for violation of code of conduct.
Official sources told Dawn on Thursday that the Election Commission asked Mr Kahiloon to explain why he was officially running the election campaign of his wife Begum Riffat Javaid, a PML-Q candidate from NA-117.
The EC authorities in Sialkot said that if the violation of code of conduct is proved, the Narowal District Nazim would be disqualified and awarded two years’ imprisonment.
Mr Kahiloon told newsmen in Narowal on Thursday that the posters and pamphlets, carrying his picture, have been got printed and displayed by his opponents.
Meanwhile, differences between the Narowal District Nazim and Tehsil Nazim over the award of PML-QA’s ticket to some candidates could not be resolved.
The PML-QA had earlier allotted ticket to the wife of the Narowal Tehsil Nazim. Later, on the intervention of the District Nazim the ticket was given to another candidate without taking Tehsil Nazim Khwaja Waseem into confidence.
LANDMINE BLAST: A farmer was seriously injured in a landmine blast in Dandhot village of Sialkot working boundary’s Zafarwal-Shakargarh-Narowal sector on Thursday.
Official sources said Muhammad Boota, 60, was grazing his cattle into the fields when he accidentally hit the landmine which exploded.
His condition was stated to be critical at the Sialkot CMH.
