KARACHI, Sept 17: An activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement who had been shot and wounded in Lyari on early Monday morning died on Tuesday in Civil Hospital.

Farooq Sarbazi was critically injured when he was fired upon in Chakiwara. Police said unidentified men shot and wounded Sarbazi near his house.

He was rushed to Civil Hospital where he was operated upon. He had received a bullet in his abdomen which badly damaged one of his kidneys. Doctors had to remove the damaged kidney to save his life.

After the surgery, he was in an Intensive Care Unit where he died. His funeral prayers were offered in Chakiwara.

In a statement, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement expressed grief on the death of Farooq Sarbazi. The party also demanded arrest of the culprits.

However, the Town Police Officer (TPO) of Lyari, Swaleh Mohammed, said: “It is not a political murder.” Sarbazi was fired upon outside his house. His brother Dr Rafiq Sarbazi lodged FIR at Chakiwara police station. The TPO said the killers were unidentified persons and the killing might be the outcome of personal enmity.

A young man was found murdered in his house in Mominabad on Tuesday.

Police said Ghulam Akbar, aged 35, was found murdered by his brother Zafar when he returned home in Bismillah Colony on Tuesday evening.

Police said that unidentified persons stabbed Akbar to death. The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem. Police described personal enmity as a possible motive for the killing.

An unidentified man was found murdered in Orangi Town on early Tuesday morning. The body was thrown there from a moving vehicle.

Police said an unidentified body was found in sector 4-D of Orangi Town. It was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem. Sources at the hospital said that the victim was tortured and throttled to death before his body was dumped in Orangi Town.

After autopsy, the body has been kept in the Edhi’s morgue for identification.

CARJACKING: Twenty-eight vehicles — eight cars and 20 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Tuesday, police said.

Three cars were hijacked. Five others were stolen.

Eight motorcycles were hijacked. Twelve others were stolen.

ACCIDENT: A woman, Parveen, aged 30, died when she came under the wheels of a train near Landhi railway station on Tuesday. The woman met with the accident while walking across the railway tracks.

The body was sent to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre. Later, it was handed over to the family.

INJURED: Police arrested on Tuesday two activists of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement for injuring a worker of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement in a KMC library in Nabi Bux police limits.

Police also recovered two pistols from their possession and registered a case against them, a duty officer at Nabi Bux police station said.

Two workers of the Muttahida struck Mohammed Shahnawaz, an activist of the MQM who works at the KMC library, with pistol butt on the head in the library. Shahnawaz was injured. He was taken to Civil Hospital.

Police arrested two workers of the Muttahida, Rehan and Fahim, who allegedly attacked the MQM worker and recovered two pistols from their possession.
