KARACHI, Sept 17: Filthy water is continuously being supplied to different parts of the city, causing severe abdominal pain and other diseases among the residents.

The localities from where complaints of getting contaminated water were received include Adamjee Nagar, Bangalore Town, Sarafa Bazaar’s Kamil Lane and New Karachi’s sector 54.

Residents of Bangalore Town and Adamjee Nagar maintained that although they had been receiving stinking water for the last one week, the KWSB officials have not yet rectified the fault and they were left with no choice but to purchase water tankers at exorbitant rates.

They said that initially about two dozen houses had started getting filthy water but now the problem has spread to a vast area of both the localities, as a result of which, they added, a large number of people, particularly children and elderly persons, have become victim of stomach diseases.

Residents of New Karachi’s sector 54 complained that although a number of houses in their locality, starting from house No 771, had been receiving contaminated water for the last four days, the KWSB has not taken measures to ensure supply of clean water.

Suspecting that sewage might have entered the water pipelines, they urged City Nazim and the KWSB managing-director to direct the concerned officials to immediately remove the cause of contaminated water supply, otherwise they feared that more people would suffer from diarrhoea and other stomach diseases.

SHORTAGE: Several parts of the city have been experiencing acute water shortage for the last a couple of days.

The hard-hit areas include Manzoor Colony, Clifton’s Block 2, Punjab Colony and parts of Lyari and Kharadar.

Residents of the affected localities said although they had lodged a number of complaints with the concerned officials, the water shortage problem was still persisting and they had no other choice but to consume sub-soil unhygienic water.
