SHEIKHUPURA, Sept 15: District and Saddar Muridke police claimed on Sunday having killed two robbers in a shootout near Rangian Jhugian village, about 40 kilometres from here.

Police sources told newsmen that three robbers had set up a picket near Aziz Industry on the Narowal Road. They looted Rs200,000 in cash from a motorcyclist and drove away with his vehicle.

On an information, they said the police team headed by district police DSP chased the robbers. Near Rangian Jhugian village, the robbers hid themselves in the bushes and opened fire on the police. In a shootout that ensued, robber Zulfiqar was killed instantly while another Amar Gujar died after some time.

The police claimed to have recovered Rs200,000 in cash, a carbine, pistol and a gun from them. Their associate Naeem fled, the police said.

The police claimed the deceased were wanted by various police stations in the district in dozens of cases. A special team has been formed to arrest the absconder, they added.

VEHARI: A robber was shot dead while another escaped in an encounter with police in Karampur area on Saturday night.

Police said two vaccinators, Ghulam Ahmad Asif and Muhammad Aslam of Karampur basic health unit, were on their way home on a motorbike when two robbers intercepted them near mauza Hassan Shah on the Luddan-Karampur Road. The armed men, they said looted Rs6,000 in cash and drove away with their vehicle. Informed by them, Karampur police team, led by SHO Ghulam Mustafa, chased the robbers to their hideout in mauza Hassan Shah. The robbers opened fire on police who returned it, killing Bashir Ahmad alias Bashira instantly. The other escaped.

The police claimed to have recovered the motorbike and a 7-mm pistol. They also claimed the deceased was wanted in a number of cases registered with Karampur and Mailsi police stations.
