KARACHI, Sept 15: Prof Ghafoor Ahmad, a central leader of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, and deputy chief of the Jamaat-i-Islami, has said the lives of the MMA candidates are like an open book and they would come up to the people’s expectations.

Speaking at Idara Noor-i-Haque, where he opened the “MMA Election Centre Karachi”, he said the day of Oct 10 would dawn as a bright day “after a dark night”.

He said the MMA was well received by the people which indicated that they trusted the religious parties. He hoped that after being voted into power, the MMA would solve the people’s problems.

He lashed out at Gen Pervez Musharraf, saying he was keen to impose dictatorship and planning to accumulate all powers in his hands.

Meanwhile, the MMA candidate from NA-245, Syed Munawwar Hasan, speaking at different corner meetings, said that Karachi would very soon turn into a city of peace and love.

He said there was a realisation among the Karachiites that their problems could not be solved through sentimental slogans, but by maintaining a peaceful atmosphere.

Dr Mairaj-ul-Huda Siddiqui, the JI’s city chief, condemned “vandalism by activists of Mutahida Qaumi Movement in an election meeting of MMA in Buffer Zone.”

He said those who wished to rule the city without the participation of other parties, had been upset by the popularity gained by the MMA. They appeared determined to sabotage the peaceful atmosphere.

MUSLIM LEAGUE: The PML (QA), after making seats adjustment with Grand Democratic Alliance, has withdrawn its 22 NA and PA candidates in Sindh. They include three NA and 19 PA candidates.

AWAMI TEHREEK: Pakistan Awami Tehreek Vice-President and a candidate from NA-251, Dr S.M. Zamir, speaking at a corner meeting in Mehmoodabad, said the people would reject the old faces who had exploited them after coming to power.

PML (N) candidate from PA-113 said the government had failed to improve the performance of any institution as the losses of Wapda had swelled to Rs40 billion. Similar was the case of the KESC.

DEMOCRATIC ALLIANCE: The Sindh Democratic Alliance chief Imtiaz Ahmad Shaikh, addressing the alliance workers and candidates, said the October 10 would be remembered as the day of deliverance from the past rulers who had made the lives of lay people miserable.

The SDA would defeat the forces of exploitation and put the province on the road to progress and prosperity.

SUNNI TEHREEK: The Sunni Tehreek chief Muhammad Abbas Quaderi has said the response shown by the public for the ST candidates is a proof they want a change.

In the past, they were coerced into supporting certain parties but the circumstances had totally changed now. The people had decided to vote for the ST candidates for their bright future, he said.

When the code of conduct of the political parties would be implemented? he posed a query to the Election Commission. So far it had failed to take notice of “terrorists activities” of the workers of an ethnic party, he added.

Nation Alliance candidate from NA-239 Syed Zia Abbas, who is also a leader of the National People’s Party, speaking at different corner meetings in his constituency, asked the people to elect those who could serve them.
