NAWABSHAH, Sept 10: Hundreds of owners of Chinese motorcycle were facing severe problems throughout Sindh due to a ban on the registration of this brand by the Excise and Taxation Department.
A dealer of motorcycles, Mohsin Ali Shaikh, told this scribe that he had sold some Chinese motorcycles to various customers who had been harassing him everyday to buy them back because the Excise and Taxation Department had refused to register them.
He said that the ban was imposed by the government on small and medium motorcycle industries to safeguard the vested interests of a few manufacturers, who were enjoying monopolies and selling motorcycles upto Rs90,000 and wanted to stop the sale of low-cost motorcycles in the country.
Several owners of Chinese motorcycles in Nawabshah told this correspondent that they were being mentally tortured by the police and excise department on a daily basis even after showing them the registration papers.
NO TRANSFERS: No transfers of any government official be made without the permission of the district Nazim.
This was directed by the district Nazim, Nawabshah, Ms Faryal Talpur, to all district government officials while chairing a meeting at the Darbar hall on Tuesday.
She directed the Taluka municipal officer and the XEN, public health, to check the water supply and drainage lines as the citizens were complaining that stinking water was being supplied due to the sewerage line mixing with the water supply line.
The district Nazim directed the EDO (health) for spraying insecticide against the spread of malaria in the town. She asked them to check the health centres and dispensaries as she had received complaints that the doctors and other staff were not performing their duties properly.
The DCO, Abdul Qadir Mangi, briefed her about the development works.
He said that Rs41.265 million were required for 12 educational schemes.
BUS LOOTED: A Shikarpur-bound bus was looted on the National Highway by 12 unidentified men near village Punhal Chandio, Sakrand, on Sunday morning.
The bus (P-1042) was en route to Shikarpur from Karachi.
The dacoits deprived the passengers of cash, jewellry and other valuables after stopping the bus on the National Highway. They overpowered and forced him to drive towards Punhal Link Road. The dacoits escaped after looting the passengers. The bus cleaner, Sohail Pathan, lodged an FIR at the Sakrand police station.
Another passenger bus was looted a couple of days ago by eight unidentified dacoits nearly half a kilometre away from Qazi Ahmed police station.
LITERACY DAY: Various programmes were held in local schools to mark the World Literacy Day on Sunday. A programme was organised by the education department at APWA High School. Addressing the gathering, the district education officer, (Elementary), Syed Qurban Shah, said that the government had resolved to raise the literacy rate besides working towards eliminating poverty and unemployment.
