KARACHI, Sept 9: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement has apprised the European Union observers of the alleged attempt by intelligence agencies to obstruct its election campaign.
The Muttahida delegation included deputy conveners of the party’s coordination committee, Aftab Shaikh, Mrs Nasreen Jaleel and Dr Farooq Sattar, and member of the committee Kunwar Khalid Yunus.
During their hour-long exchange of views with John Cushahan and Mr Staffon on Sunday, the delegation informed them about the alleged irregularities in the electoral rolls and threats received by them over telephone.
The Muttahida delegation claimed that government intelligence agencies were backing those who were creating “no-go areas” with the help of guns and depriving the people of their fundamental rights to freely elect their representatives.
ALTAF: The self-exiled leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Altaf Husain, has said his party’s goal is not elections but rectification of public grievances and removal of deprivation.
He was speaking over telephone to political workers, Sindhi and Baloch youth, elders and women from Lyari at Khursheed Begum Hall, and he urged them to join the Muttahida.
Mr Husain warned the establishment that consciousness was awakening among the people and coercion could not suppress or eliminate the voice of the Muttahida. He said the people of Lyari were facing many problems, including unemployment, education and health.
