GILGIT, Sept 6: The government has prepared a relief package for rehabilitation of the people displaced due to Indian incursions and firing at Gultari and Kargil sectors along the Line of Control, informed sources told Dawn on Thursday.

According to the sources, Rs49.4 million have been allocated for the rehabilitation of the affected families. Of the amount, Rs8.981 million would be spent for purchasing tents, Rs7.69 million for subsistence allowance, Rs3.51 million for procurement of blankets and quilts and Rs13.2 million would be spent on miscellaneous things. Each household will get Rs3,000 subsistence allowance.

The sources said that during the recent Indian shelling around 30,000 people were affected and the package had been devised at the request of the Northern Areas administration.

The finance division will finalize the package for implementation.

They said Rs50,000 would be given to each victim, Rs30,000 for each affected family and Rs25,000 for the disabled people.

They said Rs10,000 had been approved for each house demolished by the firing and Rs1,000 for each animal killed.

They said bunkers would be built in Minimarg, Gultari and Kharmang areas along the LoC for the protection of masses and animals at a cost of Rs12 million.
