LAHORE, Sept 4: Fancied bay mare Dillagi put in a superb performance to land the feature event during the midweek Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse Wednesday.
As the gates opened Dillagi broke away well from the field of nine runners and had the race won at the halfway, in the end holding off from the chestnut gelding Aao Payar Se by seven lengths.
The fast finishing bay horse Khan Bahadur finished third, another five lengths behind while bay filly Much Pleasure completed the frame, seven lengths further away.
The winner was piloted by riding boy Shahid Mustafa and trained by Iftikhar Ahmad Choudhry.
This was the fifth and last event of the card. All events were contested over the sprinting distance of 900 metres.
The long shot chestnut colt Blue Champion ran a good race to outpace nine rivals, winning the fourth and supporting vent. Blue Champion warded off a belated challenge from bay horse Mr Bond to beat him by half-a-length.
Fancied bay gelding Jonty Road took a good start and went into the lead marginally but fade out to finish third.
The odds on favourite mare Fiji made amends for her three consecutive defeats, one after the other, by winning the third race. She beat the bay gelding Golden Voice by four lengths to restore her dented image by her lacklustre performances in previous outings.
In the second race, fancied Yarrow Braw ‘s early dash right from the start paid off well to register a success over the bay gelding Love Land.
