FAISALABAD, Sept 2: Employees of the State Life Insurance Corporation observed a complete strike on Monday in protest against what they termed indifferent policies of the chairman.
Scores of employees also staged a rally and marched through various city roads. They were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans in favour of their demands.
They also held a protest demonstration outside the local press club, criticizing the policies especially restructuring plans of the corporation. They termed the steps negative and demanded that the government should immediately sack the SLIC chairman.
SLIC city chairman Akhtar Ali Parchani, city president Sheikh Sajid and secretary-general Mahmood Jaafar spoke the participants of the rally.
ARRESTED: The local police claim arresting 17 people for dealing in lottery tickets and gambling through a cricket match in various parts of the city on Sunday night.
Police teams raided a dozen shops in Ghulam Muhammadabad, Tariqabad, Tabala Colony, Razaabad, Muneerabad, Jhang Bazaar and other areas. Police arrested Mukhtar, Aslam, Nazim, Sarfraz, Khalil, Tariq, Nadeem, Hafeez Afzal, Talib Hussain, Shahzad, Tariq Hameed, Zahid, Naeem, Zulfiqar, Bilal, Sadiq and Abdul Rehman for selling and purchasing lottery tickets identical to prize bond numbers. Some of them were also found in gambling through the cricket match being played between Pakistan and Kenya.
The arrested people have been sent to jail after registering cases against them by respective police stations.
