KARACHI, Sept 2: Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro underlining the need for low cost housing schemes has asked the concerned authorities to take immediate and effective steps in this respect.

Presiding over a high-level meeting on Monday at the Governor‘s House, Mr Soomro said President Gen Pervez Musharraf had desired to establish low cost housing schemes in every district of the country.

The governor also called for resolving the problems faced by the people living in registered kutchi abadis and stressed that health, sanitation and other basic facilities be provided to them within a specified time.

The meeting also reviewed human resource development projects. In this respect, Mr Soomro directed the officials to promote technical education and added that technical training and the syllabus at the technical institutions should be according to the market requirements.

The governor was also apprised of progress of the development projects going on in the province. He emphasized timely completion of the schemes.

Talking to a delegation of the Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Mr Soomro said the government was taking steps to solve the problems of industrial and trade centres.

He directed the authorities to identify a piece of land for allotting it to the chamber for its head office. He observed that no expansion in Hyderabad Site had taken place since 1950. However, the present government, he added, was working on developing seven acres of land for this purpose. The government would ensure provision of infrastructure and all other facilities there, he added.

Mr Soomro said the CPLC was also being organized in Hyderabad and sought the chamber‘s cooperation in this respect.—PPI
