FAISALABAD, Sept 1: Workers and leaders of the PPP staged rallies and established a hunger strike camp on Sunday to lodge their protest against the casting away of Ms Benazir’s nomination papers.
In Faisalabad, hundreds of PPP activists staged the rally against the rejection of nomination papers of Ms Bhutto.
Led by PPP divisional coordinator Raja Riaz and city president Imran Murtaza, the protesters shouted slogans against the government. The protesters after marching through various city roads took a round of the Clock Tower with banners and placards in their hands inscribed with anti-government slogans.
They alleged the government interfered in court proceedings and got rejected the nomination papers of Benazir to oust her from political arena.
Raja Riaz termed the rejection of Benazir’s candidature a conspiracy against the federation hatched by the anti-democratic forces. He alleged the military regime was trying to find a way to postpone the elections.
Police contingents also marched with the protesters to avoid any untoward incident. A senior police officer also visited the PPP city offices before the start of the rally and requested its leaders to remain peaceful during the procession.
DERA GHAZI KHAN: A hunger strike camp was set up at the local Traffic Chowk in protest against the rejection of papers of Benazir Bhutto.
PPP workers and leaders also staged a rally which started from Ghanta Ghar Chowk and terminated at the Traffic Chowk.
