SUKKUR, Aug 31: Hundreds of activists of the People’s Party Parliamentarians here on Saturday took out a protest rally against the rejection of nomination papers of party chairperson Benazir Bhutto, Sindh PPP president Nisar Khoro and former deputy opposition leader Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah.
The rally after marching through main thoroughfares of the city terminated at the Sukkur Press Club.
Speaking on the occasion, the PPP leaders, Jamil Sehto, Mushtaq Surhio, Lala Asad Pathan and Shafqat Mirani, said the government under a conspiracy was keeping the PPP leaders away from the election and parliament.
Later, the activists dispersed peacefully.
It may be recalled here that after the rejection of nomination papers of Benazir, Khoro and Shah, the police took extra measures and deployed heavy police force at different sensitive points and succeeded in confining the PPP activists in their respective areas.
Meanwhile, the Sindh High Court Bar Association (SHCBA), Sukkur, at a meeting on Saturday, condemned the decision by the returning officer to reject the nomination form of Benazir and said it was taken under the government pressure.
Gul Bahar Korai presided over the meeting of the managing committee of the SHCBA.
The Bar in its resolution said it was a discrimination that the nomination papers of Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif and Kulsoom Nawaz were accepted because they belong to Punjab but the form of Benazir Bhutto was rejected as she belonged to Sindh.
Our Larkana correspondent adds: Reacting over the rejection of nomination papers of Benazir Bhutto for NA-207, Larkana-IV, a strike was observed in Naudero, her hometown, on Saturday.
The shops and business remained shut till noon.
The activists of the Sindh People’s Student Federation and the People’s Youth Wing took to the streets and burnt tyres to protest against the rejection of nomination papers of Benazir.
They were led by Mumtaz Shaikh, Mushtaque Khwaja and Shahid Mithani.
Meanwhile, around two hundred activists of the PPP took out a procession from the city office of the party in Ratodero, voicing against the decision.
Led by Gul Hassan Ghanghro, city president, and Mohammad Moosa Abro, they assembled at the main bus terminal.
Speaking on the occasion, the PPP leaders, Syed Mehar Ali Shah, Ali Gul Brohi, Syed Bachal Shah and others, announced to continue the protest till the nomination papers of Benazir were accepted.
Reports of protests were also received from Mirokhan on Saturday.
