QUETTA, Aug 29: The World Food Programme (WFP) will provide food assistance to the drought-stricken areas of Balochistan and Afghan refugees living in the camps.
The country director of the WFP, David Flitcher stated this in the meeting with provincial governor Justice Amirul Mulk Mengal who called on him here on Thursday.
“We are making arrangements for providing food to the people of different districts of Balochistan,” Mr David said, adding that these districts include Chagai, Kahran, Qila Saifullah and Pishin.
Besides, the WFP has also decided to provide food help to Afghan refugees living in the camps situated in different areas of the province. Arrangements in this connection were also in progress, he added.
The governor informed the WFP country director about the steps had been taken so far by the provincial government to meet the situation created due to long dry spell.
He said badly-hit drought areas still needed food, medicines and other necessary items and international institutions like WFP could play a vital role in this regard.
Governor Mengal said various long-term programmes were being implemented in the province and under this programme windmills were being installed in different areas of the province while delay-action dams were under construction. He said the government was implementing various water supply projects.
