MACAU, Aug 28: Reigning World Cup champions Australia kept their bid for an unprecedented sixth Champions Trophy track Wednesday as the Hockeyroos exacted sweet revenge on Commonwealth Games conquerors England.

In Wednesday’s second match, New Zealand courageously came back from a goal down to draw with European Champions the Netherlands 2-2.

The English defence caved into the relentless bombardment when Joanne Banning’s prodded shot cannoned off Roberts’ foot and looped over the helpless keeper into the net.

Australia then doubled their lead when Hudson’s run through the heart of the English defence caused havoc and Wendy Alcorn latched onto the loose ball to lash home her second goal of the tournament.

Australia now have seven points and will have to defeat defending champions Argentina in their final round robin match Friday to have any chance of making Sunday’s final.

The Netherlands caught the Kiwi’s cold with Minke Booij bundling the ball over the line from a penalty corner in the first minute.

The Dutch held the lead until the 43rd minute when Kiwi Colleen Gubb-Suddaby fired a sweetly struck penalty corner past Clarinda Sinnige.

The Dutch players protested that the shot had been hit from outside the circle but after consulting her fellow umpire, Minka Woolley ruled the goal stood.

Tara Drysdale seemed to have capped off New Zealand’s comeback with a simple tap in from a yard but Fatima Moreira de Melo sealed a point for the Dutch after a well orchestrated penalty corner.
