KARACHI, Aug 28: The Board of Secondary Education, Karachi, on Wednesday announced the results of SSC part-I (class IX) general group annual examinations 2002 of regular and private candidates.
According to a BSE notification, 43,526 candidates were registered for the examinations, out of whom 42,661 appeared in the examinations. Results of 74 candidates were withheld either on account of unfair means or for want of correct information.
As many as 13,202 regular candidates cleared all five papers, while 1,646 private candidates passed five papers.
The breakdown of candidates who were declared pass in different papers is as follows:
Regular: five papers - 13202 (35.53%); four papers - 8327 (22.41%); three papers - 6589 (17.73%); two papers - 4633 (12.47%) and one paper - 2965 (7.98%).
Private: five papers 1646 (29.92%); four papers - 1384 (25.16%); three papers - 1011 (18.38%); two papers - 707 (12.85%) and one paper - 522 (9.49%).
Computer students: The Board of Secondary Education, Karachi, has decided to allow the successful candidates of SSC annual examinations 2002 to appear in the forthcoming supplementary examinations if they desired to improve their results, it was learnt officially.
Official sources said that though it was not practised in the past, the Board has decided to facilitate the students of different groups, particularly those pertaining to the computer science combination, in regard to their admission to city colleges.
The students of computer science group, who were finding it hard to get admissions to pre-medical classes as they had not taken examination in biology, would be able to appear in the supplementary examinations.
The Board has taken the decision on humanitarian ground keeping in view its role in the development of education, said an official. Now the students of general group, who want to take science subjects as additional papers could also appear in the supplementary examinations for improving their divisions.
Confirming the reports, BSE chairman Aziz Ansari told Dawn that students desiring to appear in additional subjects could submit their examinations forms without late fee latest by Sep 5.
They would be entitled to take the improvement examinations along with the candidates of supplementary exams, provided that they presented a certificate from their school heads, stating that they had fulfilled the obligations for taking the required practical teaching hours in the subjects they wanted to take additionally, he mentioned.
Meanwhile the Board of Secondary Education will complete the announcement of results of SSC annual examinations 2002 with the notification of the science group (part I) results in the first week of next month, adds APP.
This was stated by Board chairman Mohammad Aziz Ansari while talking to this news agency on Wednesday.
He maintained that the Board had planned to announce the SSC results this year early as compared to those of the last year.
In all, 275,000 candidates had appeared in the examinations.
