KARACHI, Nov 8: A woman committed suicide in Surjani Town on Thursday.
The police said that Bakht Zareen, aged 35, shot herself in the chest with her husband’s pistol. She was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.
The police could not immediately ascertain the cause of suicide.
ROAD ACCIDENT: A five-year-old boy died and his seven-year- old sister was injured in a road accident in Orangi Extension on Thursday.
The police said that Tufail Irshad, aged five, and his sister Sana, aged seven, were returning home from school when they were hit by a minibus of route W-25.
Both the brother and sister were injured. They were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced Irshad dead on arrival. Sana was admitted to the hospital. The bus-driver escaped.
CARJACKING: Eleven vehicles — five cars and six motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Thursday, the police said.
The cars were stolen in Clifton (one), Gulshan-i-Iqbal (two), and New Town (two).
Three motorcycles stolen in Kalakot, Risala, and Arambagh. Three others were hijacked in Samanabad, Sir Syed Town, and Orangi Extension.
The police also claimed on Thursday to have recovered five vehicles in the city.
KILLED: A man allegedly killed his wife in Chakiwara on Thursday.
The police said that Saima, aged 25, mother of two, was throttled to death by her husband, Arafat, during a domestic quarrel. The body was sent to Civil Hospital for post-mortem.
The police claimed to have arrested Arafat.
BODY FOUND: Decomposed body of an unidentified man was found near Khajji ground in Nazimabad on Thursday.
The police said that the body, stuffed into a gunny bag, was at least 10 days’ old and the victim’s legs and hands were tied. The body was found near Ittehad Colony. It was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors said that the man had been stabbed to death and there were torture marks on the body.
The body had been kept in the Edhi’s morgue for identification, the police said.
ARRESTED: The Crime Investigation Agency claimed on Thursday to have arrested a suspect wanted in several murder cases and who carried a head money of one million rupees.
The police said that the suspect, Mohammed Tariq, was arrested at a hideout in Korangi’s Sector 32-E, Nasir Colony, in a raid conducted by the CIA Malir.
A spokesman for the CIA said that the one Kalashnikov rifle and 32 rounds were recovered from his possession.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed that he had killed a PPP activist, a policeman and a leader of the Sunni Tehreek, Waheed Qadri, the spokesman claimed.
The spokesman further claimed that the suspect also confessed that he kidnapped several persons, including two children for ransom whom he killed after getting the ransom money.
The suspect also admitted to working as a hired assassin, the spokesman said.
