Each candidate to pay for voters’ list

GUJRANWALA, Aug 26: Aspirants contesting elections on the seats of national and provincial assemblies will have to pay handsome amount for the photo copies of voters’ lists.

This was stated by the election commissioner while giving details to an assistant election commissioner here on Monday.

He said that Rs32,000 would be charged from each aspirant of the national assembly seat while Rs16,000 from a candidate of the provincial assembly seat.

The amount would be deposited with the National Bank before receiving voters’ list from the election commission office, he added.

CONVENTION: Teachers will resume strike if the Punjab government and high-ups of the Education do not withdraw the denationalization ordinance as promised by the governor.

This was stated at a convention organized by Punjab SES teachers in the Government Jamia High School here on Monday.

Speakers, including Arif Hussain, Muhammad Arif, Muhammad Yahya, Khalid Nasim Cheema and Tanvir Hassan Shah, expressed their concern over the delay in implementing the governor’s promise.

ENCROACHMENTS: The City Tehsil Council has given three days to shopkeepers for removing encroachments or ready to face fine of Rs10,000 besides an imprisonment of one month.

This was stated at a meeting held here on Monday after issuing notices to shopkeepers.

Presided over by City Nazim Babu Javed Ahmad, the meeting gave vent to their discontent that citizens and passers-by were facing inconvenience due to encroachments.

The meeting was also participated in by the municipal magistrate and other high-ups of the City Tehsil Council.

BOOKED: A PML-QA aspirant, his son and 10 supporters were booked on the charge of trespassing a house and manhandling women over a minor issue in Sethi Colony here on Monday.

Shehbaz Abbas had raised objections when UC Nazim Nasir Cheema and his accomplices blocked the road in front of his house. Cantonment police have registered a case against the accused.

FINED: The traffic police on Monday issued challan tickets to 17 motorcyclists and other vehicle owners on the charge of traffic violation here on Monday.

Traffic range SP Farooq Mazhar said the operation would continue.
