HYDERABAD, Aug 26: Several more candidates filed their nomination papers for various seats on the last date of filing of nomination papers here on Monday.
Nazim of union council Chambar-I, Dr Irfan Gul Magsi, resigned from his office and submitted his papers for PS-52 of Tando Allahyar Taluka against Imdad Pitafi of the PPP Parliamentarians.
Dr Magsi submitted his resignation before the council officer, Haji Abdul Waheed, before filing his candidature.
Earlier his sister, Ms Adeeba Gul Magsi, had filed her nomination papers for the same seat.
So far four sitting Nazims have resigned from their offices: Dr Irfan Gul Magsi, SDA’s Dr Najeeb Memon of union council Qasimabad-II, Ali Mohammad Walhari of Union Council Tando Allahyar, and Nazim Taluka Council (Hyderabad Taluka) Peer Amjad Shah Jeelani.
Dr Najeeb Memon filed his nomination papers for PS-47, and Peer Amjad Shah Jeelani of PPP Parliamentarians filed his papers for NA-221.
The final list will be displayed in the court late in the night.
The internecine fight between the office bearers of the PPP, Hyderabad, continued and the confusion regarding PS-47 deepened as Mir Fateh Talpur also filed his nomination papers for the same seat.
There were serious differences over this seat as Zahid Bhurgari, the sitting Hyderabad city general secretary, has been awarded party ticket of PPP but the decision of the party is not being accepted by some workers of Qasimabad and Latifabad.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Imran Siddiqui, Deputy Election Commissioner, Hyderabad division, has announced that due to the extension of two days for filing of nomination papers, the schedule for scrutiny of nomination papers has also been revised.
The provincial election commissioner, Sindh, returning officer for the seats reserved for women in the National Assembly and reserved seats for women and non-Muslims in the provincial assembly, Sindh, will now hold scrutiny at 11am for the seats reserved for women in the provincial assembly on Aug 28, seats reserved for non-Muslims in the provincial assembly on Aug 30, and seats reserved for women in the National Assembly on Sept 1.
He advised all prospective candidates who have filed their nomination papers to attend the scrutiny on the respective dates.
